On 26 March 1955, en route from Portland to Honolulu, No 3 engine and propeller tore loose, forcing the captain to ditch the aircraft 56 km (35 miles) off the Oregon coast. Two out of 15 passenger and two of the eight crew were killed. The aircraft sank after 20 minutes.
