Delivered 4 February 1939 to Pan Am and operated as Yankee Clipper. Purchased by US Navy on 13 December 1941 but continued to be operated by Pan Am. Crashed in Lisbon on 22 February 1943 while landing on Tagus River when port wingtip touched the water while turning in preparation to land. Twenty-four of the 39 people aboard were killed, including novellist Ben Robertson. Actress Jane Froman was injured.
A full-size partial replica of this aircraft has been constructed at the Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Ireland.
